March Madness and McKenna is a tough little girl....

Here is my tribute to the March Madness that is going on right now. This was taken at Reunion Arena in Dallas Texas during the 1996 tournament. I had the opportunity to speak to the press after the game. I had a triple double earlier in the day (at Wendy's) and the press wanted my reaction.

Happy Easter!!!!

So let's take care of the mail...

Scott Dahl took it upon himself to appoint himself to the Websters dictionary board of directors....

'Chris, as your blog's recipient copywriter, I feel it is my duty to inform you that the correct spelling is "subpoenaed" not "sopinaed."

Your were "subpoenaed." Your were not "sop I nade."

Leave it to a cheesehead not to consult a dictionary. But that's okay, you got Vikes fans watching your back.'

Thanks Scott, I hope you don't charge me by the hour on that one. That could get expensive....

Speaking of spelling, Ialso spelled Robby DuPuis name wrong. Sorry dude. Slip of the finger. Middle finger.

Okay,

Last week I had the love all done on thursday night ready to go early friday, BUT, McKenna had other plans. I took her to day care about 8:15. As I was driving away, 15 minutes later, my cell rang and I noticed that it said day care. Uh, oh. What did I forget? Well I answer the phone and all I hear is screaming in the background. I know all of you who have kids can pick out your child's scream or laugh in a crowded room. I can't localize where the cordless phone is in the room, but I can tell that it is my kid screaming. They tell me that she was running(I know, funny, a child of mine running) and tripped and fell into a chair. I need to come back and take her to the hospital. Great, all that lazing around I was going to do at home is ruined, no that isn't what I thought but it is funny. So I go back to the day care and find my little girl, not screaming anymore, hugging the day care provider with a nice little gouge in her forehead. Talk about feeling bad. I know what people mean when they want to take the pain away and have it themselves. I wanted so bad to transfer the cut to me. If it were possible I would probably still be crying. On a funny side note McKenna is facinated with blood. I think she likes the color. Is this bad? On another side note. I was kicking myself for not having a camera with me. I wanted to document the whole thing. Is this bad?

So Donna comes to the day care, because she has the health care cards, and we go to the U of A Hospital. It is early in the morning so we get right in and the doctor sees her quickly. At this point McKenna thinks the whole thing is a field trip and you wouldn't know she was hurt if you couldn't see the gash over her forehead. They decide to put this numbing gel on her forehead to numb it, duh, so they can do the stitches. Only it takes an hour to get numb. I at this point am thinking that we are getting lucky because we have not had to wait for anything. Hour later...the place is packed and we wait, and wait, and finally the doc comes in and puts five stitches in my little girls forehead. She did not flinch but maybe once. I flinched a lot more than she did. Man I wish I had a camera. Is that wrong? No crying and no kicking or pulling away. What a kick ass little girl. She was out on the ice for her next shift.

So we left the hospital, without having to pay (Canada Health Care Rocks), and proceeded to be blackmailed by a two year old for lunch and a balloon. She thought since she was such a good girl she should get to have lunch at Red Robin and get a 'special balloon'. Well, it worked. She got a nice lunch and a Dora the Explorer Balloon. When we went back to the day care to pick up Donna's care McKenna wanted to go in and show off her stitches. It was nap time at day care so we didn't. She wasn't to happy about that.

Camera, camera, camera. I need to carry it everywhere.

So here are some pics I took once we got home and the next day. We weren't supposed to take the bandage off for a while but I needed a picture and Donna finally gave in.

Here is Donna preparing to rip the bandage off...

A close up of her badge of honor...

Here she is posing with her baby...

McKenna with her 'Special Balloon'

So there it is. What did we learn in all of this? Well, not to run at day care. Always milk any injury for all it is worth. Balloons with Dora on them are 'special'. And ALWAYS carry your camera with you.

Have a nice day and long weekend...

AND GET BACK TO WORK!!!!

Watch 48 Hours Mystery on Saturday...I might be on it.

This is the glass I am getting for my front window...
Thanks Preston for that one.

Happy Birthday to these fine folks...

Mitch Davis, my brother in law, was March 4
Reg Rudolph B-day was March 16
Tamra, his lovely wife, is March 30
Robby DuPuis is March 26th

If you want your big day mentioned send me an email with the dates and I will drop it in. Cool? Cool.

First off lets take care of the mail. Marty sent me this...

Marty Frey and his little friend...

"Mmmmm - beer..

Only you would take a picture of the cooler in the media lounge and send it
to someone... You're too young to remember this, but in the good old days of
covering the Packers (early 90's) they used to keep a keg on tap in the
media booth and they had a self-serve bar with your standard beverages and
mixes.. Mostly for Max McGee who would mix himself about 4 or 5 Brandy
Manhattans during the course of a game..

Can't wait to see the tapes - it's getting too hot here again.. We're just
waiting for the rest of the plagues to hit SoCal... I think it's Frogs,
locust and flaming hail next.. can't wait.."

Yes Marty I guess I am the only one who would take pics of such things, but you know it is only for the enjoyment of others. Never for my own exploitation. I hope you love your plauges, that is what you get for living in La La land.

Hauser sent me this....

"Hey, would they all get ticked off if you used a super duper water balloon launcher from the other end of the arena, and tried to hit those targets painted on the big old ice cube?

What's up canuck? Just thought I would post some smart remark, take care and remember to white balance.

Hauser (starting left brusher)"

That is brilliant. I think you just invented another sport for Canadians. I would love to give it a go. You get points for your balloon placement and have to drink beer if you miss. Also, I do not think there is a 'starting left brusher' but I will let you have that one, there oughta be.

And my crazay Uncle Ray piped up...

"Why is it when canadians are on ice they have to find something round to push around? It does Look like a lot of fun, To drink beer use a broom and get trophys and medals. Do these guys get lots of money and girls if they win? Also is there a problem with steriods and big brooms? I'm sure there are lots of secrets your keeping from your fan base. Let me know.
Uncle rayman"

Well, as for ther pushing round things around you are right, I am just not sure if there is anything to the Steroids charge. If you have seen most curlers you might take the steriods blast back, also you would not have to ask the girls question. Ther are no secrets here at friday love.

Now down to business. I was watching Ferris Bueller's day off the other night. Possibly one of the best movie's EVER. Donna, shakes her head everytime I sit down to watch it. I can quote most of the movie. She doesn't understand why a grown man would watch a movie he has seen already, 20-50 times. My answer, why not. The only thing that sucked that night was that Three Amigos was on at the same time. Love that movie also.

Anyway, I saw this promo for a 48 hours mystery that is going to air on Saturday. It is about this arson cop who was convicted of killing his wife. They found her in her perfectly burnt out inside of her house dead. So he went to trial and was convicted. Now that may not be a big deal to most of you but here is the catch, I was a witness and testified in that trial. NO JOKE. I lived accross the street from her in Green Bay. Apparently they now think he may have been wrongly convicted. Thus the story on Saturday. There has been some suspicion on the prosecution may have been corrupt. The guy in quesion was in my house and questioned me. Nice. I will say it right now, I had nothing to do with it. Honest. The cops kid has a website claiming his innocence. It is here http://johnmaloney.org/ if you wish to do some investigating yourself.

The night in question, I went out to get the mail and I smelled smoke and the neighborhood had a haze hanging over it. I immediately thought of calling the assignment desk at work and ask if there were any calls for a fire in the hood, but didn't because I usually got grief for calling. I went back inside and called Miguel, a shooter at WGBA, because he was going to come over and tip a few and play playstation. He did not come over and I just called it a night.

Next day, I see cops parked out in front of this house and I ask them what happened. They inform me of the fire and the body inside. So me being the good guy I am I tell them what I saw and smelled. Next thing I know I have cops in my living room asking questions. I answer all of them, and then I get sopinaed (sp?) and am in court for the trial. It was all cool, except the defense attorney was the same guy who defended Dahmer. I was very nervous so the guys in town who were there to cover the story told me they would take some pics of me on the stand.

Thus the pics you see below. Notice the fact that all of them are not very flattering. That is all they took of me. BAD pics. Have a look and a laugh, again this is all for your personal pleasure...

The first one is entitled GAS for obvious reasons...

The second one is entitled "I promised I wouldn't cry"

The next one is called "Pick a winner"

This one is called "She had nice, er, Hands"

This one is called "Now, how do I con the Judge into calling me Almighty"

I had a few more but I can't find them right now. This just shows you the power that guy has with the camera. If all he wants to do is take bad pics that is what he can do. We took these pics and had a quote contest which was judged by the DA of Brown County. He loved them. I have looked for that and I can't find it. Too bad it was funny.

So there you have it, something for you to watch on Saturday. I believe it is on at 9pm central time. Watch for me, or not, I was, as the investigator said, a "Key witness" because I was able to pinpoint exactly when the fire was. Sure, you bet. This was also the subject of a A&E City Confidential called "Terror in Titletown". I AM big time, no matter what Marty Frey or my Uncle says.

Have a nice Day and GET BACK TO WORK!!!!!!

Brier Part Two

Here are some pictures I snapped with my camcorder last night at the Brier final. My Camcorder takes terrible still photos so please bear with me on the quality. Here is the first pic...

This is the rink, Rexall Place, where the Oilers usually play. It is different to see it with curling ice in it. They sold the joint out. Over 300,000 people over the course of a week. New record for the Brier. Like it matters...

This is a picture of Jake Daniels a local sports talk radio jock standing in front of the cooler and donut table in the media lounge. Yes lounge. Leather couches and plenty of snacks for us to indulge in. Jake is holding his good friend, BEER. Plenty of that in the lounge. If I like Curling if for anything, I like it for that. Next pic......

Tim Hortons was the sponsor of the Brier so we had plenty of Tim Hortons coffee and donuts. Tim Hortons coffee is like crack to Canadians. So the pusher was in the room the whole week...Next pic...

A close up of the Beer in the cooler..Never was less than a 24 stocked in the cooler. They had neer beer in there too, but I never saw anyone drink that. Why bother? another Pic....

A pic of Jordi waiting for something to happen. He wasn't feeling well. Maybe you can tell by the pic. Jordi works with me. Also a former A-Channel employee. Next pic....

Jamie TomASS waiting and watching the last rock thrown. As you can tell he is enthused. The Alberta rink was trying to draw to the button for one. That was curling jargon. Only Marty knows what that means. Last Photo...

This is Me and Rick from The station I used to work for. No he is not on his knees. He is short. So generally in a scrum like the one last night he stands in front of me if he can. There were about 7 or 8 cameras in the scrum last night. Rick got in a shouting match with a 90 year old blue hair that had a toupee and no idea about what a camera is for. The old guy just stepped in front of Rick so Rick took an elbow at him. The ref did not see it so he did not have to go to the penalty box. Old people are funny. Especially if they have bad toupees.

So there you have it. The Brier Experience.

Have a nice day and GET BACK TO WORK!!!!!

Curling, wow. Not really....

Well,

I have another Curling post. Part one. I am writing a short one today and then another on monday. Sunday we are going to cover the Brier and I am going to take some pictures for you to paruse. No pics yet so I will not go into too much detail. I will tell you this...The Brier is the only sporting event that I have attended as a member of the media where in the media lounge they supply you not only with doughnuts, pop, and coffee, BUT BEER. That's right, BEER. Right next to the juice and water, a nice selection of Alexander Keith's and Labatts BEER. I have been so tempted to give it a go, but my shooting is questionable without beer.

so I will have some pics on monday, of the lounge, the ice, the rink and what not. So have a nice friday and I will see you on Monday for more LOVE.

Oh, one more thing. I started volunteer coaching with a football team on Sunday. Very cool. Very intimidating. Especially when the example of coaching I recieved in High School was Coach Berglund. Basically a guy in coaching shorts, a whistle and a whole bunch of attitude. He just walked around with his hand in his shorts and yelled. No real technique or coaching. So the first time the Line coach told me to take a group over and work on the first step I was a bit scared. But I pulled through and I think I did okay. I guess you would have to ask the kids. It is Bantam football, which is 9,10, and 11 grade. It was kinda cool the first time one of the players called me coach though. That is kind of a respect thing. I to this day call anyone who was my coach, coach. The coach of the Oilers is coach, it does not matter, if he is a coach and you played any kind of organized sport, you call the man coach. It is a respect thing. So to be called 'coach' was kinda cool. The name of the team is the Sherwood Park Wolverines. They have a cool website. http://www.spwolverines.com/

I would like to thank John Trana, a fine coach in his own right, for his guidance and tips. He helped me get through the practice. I thought it was funny though when I told John that there are 12 guys on the field in Canada. He did not know that. Or he did and forgot. Funny. Three downs and a whole bunch more field. I just can't wait until they are in pads and start knocking heads. That is my coaching story. I hope you enjoyed it.

Now, GET BACK TO WORK!!!!

Randy, farewell & good riddance...

Hey all,

Sorry so late, but I had to run to Calgary this morning(yes Calgary does suck). I could have done this last night but I was busy learning. That's right. Learning. No Donna was not teaching me how to heel or anything complicated like that, I was working on the computer learning how to run Final Cut Pro. It is an editing program for video. Killer program. Anyway, I spent most of the day yesterday working on that. SOOOOOOO, lets take care of the mail....Wait first off let me get the birthdays out of the way...

Chadwick Weiser, Feb. 21st
Angie Weiser, Feb.23rd
Johnny H, Feb 21, 74

Happy belated birthday. Here is a pic of Johnny H and the Cup...

Now with the mail....

Marty responded to the curling topic...

Chris

That's quality stuff right there... If you need to, I can lend you my broom and sliders... But I don't think my team wool jacket would fit you...

I actually found some people out here who know how to curl and we got to use some of the ice at the local rink.. It's a very nice place, but there was no bar and everyone kept interrupting us asking what the hell we were doing... It's just not the same.

Marty

Thanks marty but I think I will stick to the beer part of curling. James Grandy, a Canadian gave me the business...

Mr. Peterson,

i love the love dude....its like youve turned into me. dont fight being a canuck, go with it. curling rocks!! ( although i never did it...that was hockey season) just a side note...my hometown of 168 people had that silver broom champion skip for women in 1981 (world champs...like it matters)

another side note from a past "love" theo fleury was born in my home town also.

i watched the greatest game of all time on tues(1989 Grey Cup Sask vs Hamilton)...from dvd. ya know the only thing that sucked about that in hindsight is that he could have just kicked it thru the endzone and won (lame rule)

and you have to admit that you love hating the vikes and you dont hate them AS much anymore...too bad...nothing better than a hate rivalry. ( told you my barber was a good source)

James

Grandy I will be discussing the Moss thing later and last but not least.....Ivy sent me a letter last week....

Hey man:

Thanks for the immortalizations in last week's blog. I hoped the funyuns would be safe, but evidently they got a little reduced in the treck across the border.

Maybe we ought to consider reconvening close to Calgary next March with the wives and kids? They can stay out at some ski resort and us bruthas can go into town and style and profile. Wooooooooooooooooooooo! (nice thought)

I've got a Moss jersey for sale too. What a blockbuster of a deal.

Happy weekend
Steve

Speaking of Randy....Here is a nice pic of him...

I did not mention the Randy Moss trade last week because I did not want to jinx it. My intuition worked. Bye bye you jerk. How's that taste. Traded for a linebacker. Nice. This trade is almost as good as the Hershel Walker trade. I remember that the Super Bowl was guaranteed after that trade. How many did they get? He is almost assured to NEVER win a Super Bowl with Oakland. For all those viking(I never capitalize it because it does not deserve it) fans out there, there is a sale on jerseys at the Mall of America. All number 84, and a bad shade of purple. Grown men wearing purple. Ha.

I will admit I am just glad that the Pack don't have to face him twice a year any more. That is the silver and black (ha ha get it, a raiders joke) lining in all of this. I can't wait for the first Randy yelling at Kerry Collins on the sidelines video. Or Randy leaving the game in the second quarter because Collins did not see him open. I am just very pleased. Commitment to Excrement is the Raiders motto, well, they got a whole pile of it last week.

Just one more pic for you to enjoy...

HAVE A NICE DAY, AND GET BACK TO WORK!!!!
