J Masics is God...

Last night I went to see one of my favorite bands of all times. Dinosaur Jr. was in E Town to play the Starlite Club and man was I stoked. I think Robby DuPuis, of the Minneapple DuPuis, was the dude who turned me on to this band. Back in the early and late nineties I used to rock Dino Jr. all the time. Of course living in North Dakota a person is not generally going to get the chance to see Dino Jr. Jason Manning, of the Sonic 102.9 Mannings, scored me the duckets to the show and me and Paulie went to the show. Paulie thought we were going to see The Screaming Trees, which would have been totally cool also, but I informed him of his mistake and he was still game.

Manning told me that Jr. was supposed to hit the stage around 10 so Paulie picked me up at around 9:30 and we rocked it to the Starlite. When we got there there was a line up, not at the front door but on the side. Which I guess is how you get into this joint. Well the side door is up this corridoor that is about as wide as two of me. Nice, claustrophobic as I am, this is all I need. Plus if there was a fire in this place, we are all dead. All I could think of was the Great White show where the bar burned. Oh well, it is all for J and his screaming guitar.

As we were standing in line we both were pretty much in agreement that we think it is sooo much easier to stay at home and watch TV. Yup we are old. Ten years ago I would have been at the door by 7pm first in line ready to rock. Not any more. Just way too old for this. I will however make an exception for J Masics.

At Christmas I got a pair of custom made ear plugs from the Davis', of the Regina Davis'. Green and Gold colored I might add. If you would have told me a few years ago that I would be taking ear plugs to a show I would have popped you in the schnoz. Lately I have been noticing all the times I can't hear things and I really think that it has something to do with going to around a thousand shows in the last 20 or so years. Maybe standing right up front by the stack of amps at the Wilco show was not a good idea, or maybe the volume at the Foo Fighters wasn't really that low. Anyway, what I am getting at is that I am getting old. Man that sucks, especially since I seem to forget my plugs and my ears are still ringing over 24 hours later. Robby DuPuis has informed me of his intention to see Dino on Wednesday and his ears are worse than mine. Robby remember your plugs. They were fricking loud. I see a trend here. I am old.

We get inside and one of the opening acts is just leaving the stage. As he left he said "Fu#k you Edmonton!". Nice, can't wait to see who is next. Well next was a band from Michigan named "Awesome Color". Not bad. The bass player looked like he was about 16 but he was good. The Drummer was a chick and she just beat the hell out of the drums. Not bad. Off to a good start.

One thing though, lately I have been watching the people as much as I have been the shows. During the Color show we were along the wall of this club, which had a slanting floor in front of the stage. Slanted away from the stage, anyway, we are against the wall and these hippies roll up and stand in front of us. Not usually a bad thing but one of the hippies was the only other dude in the joint taller than me. Plus they smelled really bad. REALLY bad. They split for the Dino show which was good, kinda.

Dino Jr. hit the stage at about 11:30pm. Nice, just a bit late. Again I am getting old. After the hippies left this guy, who had to be about 50, rolled up. He was totally drunk, out on his feet. You know how sometimes there is a guy at a show who likes to yell songs at the band. You know the "FREEBIRD" guy. Well this guy after every song yelled "Start Chopping". Which is a great song, but obviously is a late in ths show song. EVERY SONG he yelled it. Dino Jr. did not play the song and I hold this a-hole responsible. After the show I heard him say, why did they not play "Out There". They played that song and he was singing along so much that I even heard him over the band. Drunk guys.

Speaking of, the dude in the pic above with the mohawk decided during "Feel the Pain" to make a stage dive. Now if you have seen the movie with Pauly Shore where he is this guy from the city who goes to the farm. There is scene where a guy stage dives and the crowd separates and he goes flat on his face. Well that is what happened here. Funniest thing I have seen in a long time.

Man, my ears are still ringing. As you can see I got a few pics. Usually I take a bunch but I caught some shit for taking these. Of course I was not the only one with a camera in the joint but I was the one who caught shit. Probably because I blot out the sun. The guy told me that if I had a camera phone it would be okay but not a camera. What? Same thing. He told me "No Photography". I told him this is not photography, it is just a picture. If I was doing photography I would have a real camera. So I need to get a camera phone so I do not catch shit? Robby said he is going to send me a pic from the show he sees on Wednesday. I already warned him about the phone thing.

Anyway, Dino Jr. totally ruined my hearing, and I went to sleep happy about seeing one of my favorite bands even if they are a bit past their prime. Wait, I guess the same could be said for me.

Station for sale on Ebay, Man Caves, and NHL picks...

Okay, it is time for the conference finals in the NHL and I, of course, will give you my picks. BUT FIRST I have a few things to show you...

If you are in the market for a television station, that's right, a full blown TV station. There is one up for bids on eBay. CLICK HERE to see what you could have. Man, if I was to own a station I would do kinda what Weird Al did in UHF. Just put on as much local programming as I could afford. Stuff like sports talk, local politics, some crazy kids show, Green Bay Packers highlights, a Packer talk show, a Packer bar show, an entertainment show, lots and lots of old wrasslin' matches, how to build a playhouse show, more wrasslin'.

Now that I think about it I would ask Vince McMahon if he wanted to just run old stuff 24/7 on my network. Just start from 1980 and run all the shows back to back over and over again. That would be awesome. I would also make sure that no one would have to go on strike. Make the working environment as pleasant as possible.

I would call Garner up and see if he wanted to do a show about Napping. Just a information show on Naps and how to make your nap time work. I personally can nap, anywhere, anytime. Just sit down, close my eyes, lower my heart rate, deep breathing, and gonzo. I once fell asleep in the dentist chair as the dentist was drilling away. No lie. Just concentrate hard enough and it can happen. The show about Napping would analyze peoples different ways they nap, secrets on how to nap, things like that. Garner has it all worked out.

Maybe also a show about Man Caves. Go out and videotape guys Man Rooms. That way if there was a young up and comer that was thinking of building a Man Cave he could watch our show and get some tips from the guys who have already done it. A way to not make the same mistakes we did when we built ours.

Speaking of man caves..Have a look at this video of a TV in some dudes bedroom. Has to be a dude, no chick would want this in their room.

Bedroom TV from hamiltongbp on Vimeo

I would also have a show about team locker rooms. Kinda like Cribs, except pro, or college, teams locker rooms. Have one of the players from said team give a tour of their locker room. Most people do not get to see the rooms for some of their favorite teams. There is a lot of history in some of these rooms and this show would bring it to the fans. It would be called 'Rooms'. That would be cool.

Anyway, if you are interested just click on over to eBay and bid away...

viklogo

Got some good viqueen jokes off of PackerPalace dot com. That dude over there has some great sources for anti domequeen material. Oh and he has some pics of Number 4's house in Mississippi. Incredible. It is like a small city. This from the guy who used to say when he retired he would just buy a double wide and go fishing everyday. This house is a little bigger than a double wide. Enjoy...

Q: How many Vikings does it take to win a Superbowl?
A: No one knows, and we may never find out!

Q: Where do you go in MN in case of a tornado?
A: To the Metrodome - they'll never have a touchdown there.

Q: What's the difference between the MN Vikings and the Taliban?
A: The Taliban has a running game.

Q: Do you know why the Minnesota Vikings play in a dome?
A: Because God doesn't want to watch them play either.

NEXT:
Okay now to my picks for the finals. I have been doing pretty good so far. Last round I was two and two. Round one I was five and three. So that makes me so far, seven and five. Damn Anaheim. Okay, here goes...

EASTERN CONFERENCE FINAL

Ottowa Senators(4) vs. Buffalo Sabres (1)

Okay we all know where I stand on these two teams. Both have former Green Bay Gamblers on them, Ty Conklin and Tom Preissing. The city of Buffalo has been a second place team for sooooo long that I kinda want them to finally get over and take a trophy home but I think that Ottowa has had such good quality teams over the past few years that they also are due. This is tough... What do I do? Pick it to go seven, that is a no brainer. Damn, this is not easy. Buffalo in Seven.

WESTERN CONFERENCE FINAL

Detroit Red Wings(1) vs Anaheim Ducks(2)

This one is equally a crap shoot. Crap, since that is what I think of both teams. Anaheim blows because they have Pronger and their fans do not give a crap about the team and the Red Wings suck because they are the Red Wings. Both teams as far as I am concered can just go get bent. I am hoping again for as many injuries as possibly can happen and them to just get tired of the travel between Detroit and Anaheim. I am picking, crap I hate these teams, Detroit in seven.

There you have it, my picks for the NHL conference finals. Good luck and may the force not be with Anaheim or Detroit.

Have a good day and GET BACK TO WORK!!!!

Chris Peterson....Master Builder.

I am sorry that I have been neglecting the blog a bit as of late, but I had a party to prepare and organize for a 5 year old and it took some time. Not only did Donna and I have a big party planned but as a gift to my VERY active 5 year old I built her a play house. Whaaaaa? Did I just say build. Yup. This coming from the guy who barely made it thru Vo Ag in high school. Building that stupd little box was just too much for me. Which I still have that box. McKenna uses it to store her girl stuff in. Good thing they had us build that box, it would have been tragic for McKenna not to have a box to put her fake princess jewelry in. Those guys teaching Vo Ag really knew what we needed.

So last year I added a room in the basement. Not only did I add a room, I added a Green Bay Packer Room. That's right, painted Packer green, with a great Packer border (picked up from the holy land and sent to me by the Nordic Man), and the bed has official Green Bay Packer sheets. As Bubbles would say, deeeeee heeee eeeecent. Notice the Ross Verba jersey and photo of the renovated Lambeau on opening day in 2003. I really outdid myself. Oh, and as I have said before all of you, the TundraTalk Nation, are welcome anytime to stay in the Packer room. Especially all of you viqueen fans. Especially you queen fans.

Now to bring us up to date I got a bit cocky and one day spewed out to McKenna that I thought I would make her a play house for her birthday. Well, if you have a 4 year old you know, that if you say it, there is no way to take it back. I was stuck. But I felt confident that if I just put my little mind to it, I could make it happen. I am the awesome creator of the Peterson Family Packer Room so I can do it.

So since here in Edmonton the snow doesn't officially go away until May, I had to start building in the garage. I scoured the internet for play house plans and all I found was eleborate designs for play houses nicer than my House. So I was on my own. I sat down and planned out the size and shape. Blair Stefishin, of the Edmonton Stefishin's, looked at it and told me how much wood I would need and I went to Rona and loaded up.

After I brought it home I went to the Used Architecture Warehouse and bought a coulple of windows. Then I started to build. I got really cocky and built all the walls in the garage. Thinking that when the weather cleared I could just go and put it up, in theory. Notice the purple door. McKenna picked the color of the door and I let her paint it. It is going to be a very effeminante shed when she is done with it.

A week or so later the snow cleared and then I could start my build. I put down some gravel and started to lay out the floor and the front patio. So far so good. It was all coming together. My vision was starting to take shape. As the late great George Peppard said on the classic show the A-Team, "I love it when a plan comes together!" I loved that show. Notice I had to cut a tree back to make room for the house. I got to rent a chain saw. I love man tools. After the saw I went and rented a wood chipper. Oh yeah, I am a man. A man who loves power tools. I kept thinking of Steve Buciemi in Fargo as I was stuffing wood into the chipper. Loved that movie.

Anyway, I was nervous and excited as I started to frame the walls. Of course it was a hard hat area so I wore my hard hat with pride. If McKenna was not careful she may have a Packer themed play house. They all fit together perfectly suprisingly enough. Of course after I had it all framed and was getting ready to go and buy some plywood to put the walls up a neighbor came over and pointed out that my house was not up to code. Well, duh. I built it. He said that it has to be at least 3 feet from an existing fence. Wha? Who the hell would put a shed that far away from the fence. That is stupid. Who cares, the city can take their thee feet and tell the story walking. Too late to move it now.

I managed to get the plywood up on the walls then right on cue, the weather takes a turn on me. Rain for about 5 days straight, AND two nights befor the party, you guessed it, SNOW. May 4th and we get snow. Only in Alberta.

Of course I did all the easy stuff up until now. The roof is the hard part. I tried to do one rafter after another but it just did not work. I did not want a 6 foot roof but I wanted it too look okay. Cory Blashil, of the Edmonton Blashil's, came over and power builded a roof for me in about three hours. That guy can build like no one I have ever seen. He measures then cuts. I have to measure about three times, sit and think about it, measure again, then cut. Anyway, the roof went up and then I could finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. Rain kept us from painting for several days so we would run out and paint whenever there was an opening in the weather for a few hours.

We were running out of time but we got a break on the Saturday before the party and we had about 6 hours of no rain and we painted as much as we could. We got the walls and deck painted and put up tarps to keep it somewhat dry. It worked and on the Sunday of the party we put the final touches on it and it was ready. I put up the window shelf, put in some carpet (that was donated by Jordi Weidman), Donna painted the window frames, I put up the deck rail, and Donna painted it. Done.

Party time came and McKenna had about 15-20 friends over and it was a huge hit. Garner, of the Radio Sonic Garner's, brought his kids Dora Bouncy House over and it was all good. Plenty of fun, sugar, more fun and more sugar.

So that is why I have been away from the blog lately. I will leave you with this video that I saw again last night on a SNL show. Funniest TV moment EVER. Chris Farley, dude, I miss you.

Golf clinic and Today is the big day...

Watson
Tom Watson at Blackhawk golf course

This week Tom Watson, Paul Azinger, Peter Jacobson, and Natalie Glubis were in Edmonton to put on a clinic and then play a round of golf for a bunch of rich people. We went to cover it and all I can say is those guys were awesome. It is just amazing how they can put the ball where ever they want to. Watson took his wedge out and chipped the ball straight up and caught the ball. I wish I could play one hole as good as they can.

I went golfing today with my boys. That's right, I went golfing the day before my second child is to be born. Garner Andrews, Jason Manning and I headed off to Dragons Head par three and proceeded to put on our own clinic. It was the first time I had been out this summer. What? August and you finally get out to the course? Yeah, I have been busy, and those lousy Oilers kept me off the course for the spring.

So I went golfing and had a great time with the boys. It wasn't even an 'angry round', although it threatened to to be on several occasions.

As far as the baby goes, I will post pics and the verdict, boy or girl as soon as I can.

Have a nice day and GET BACK TO WORK

I needs your help to write an open...

Me and Tommy
Tommy reluctantly took a pic with me at the WBC

I did not do a blog last week because I was tired and busy. You got a podcast though, I hope you liked it. Garner Andrews is a funny dude. Oh, the pic above is of me and Tommy Lasorda at the World Baseball Classic. He was wandering aimlessly in the concourse and I spotted him. He did not really want to take the pic as you can see by the look on his face. He really wasn't that friendly. Oh well, I go the pic, so screw him. His 'handler' asked me why I was in the media and taking pictures, I told him to mind his own business. He still took the pic though. Oh well, it was a long week in PHX and not a lot of sleep so I guess we all were testy. PLUS on the day we left, it had not rained in 143 days, so it was a torrential downpour as we were hauling our gear from terminal to terminal looking for the US Customs office. Why do I know that it had been 143 days, my dad told me, he keeps track of stuff like that. He is old. That is what they do.

The Podcast that does not SUCK

I have a new podcast for you today. It features three guests. All of them NHL players, and all of them former Green Bay Gamblers. That's right, the only three NHL players currently in the league that played in Titletown. You know that when an NHL player takes time out of his busy schedule to talk to me on the podcast that does not suck, that TundraTalk is a sought after program. Stand back Oprah, there is a new fat person in town.

So just CLICK HERE and go and enjoy the show. In fact you can click and listen, then create a new tab for browsing, then come back and read the rest of the blog whilst you listen. Did I mention that TundraTalk is the podcast that does not suck?

In an upcoming episode of TundraTalk I will have the author of the book Pain and Passion, Heath McCoy. Heath wrote a book describing the tumultous history of Stampede Wrestling. I read the book and loved it. I never got to witness to any Stampede matches but by reading the book, I feel like now I have. If you don't know what Stampede Wrestling is it is a promotion that was based in Calgary, by the ledgend Stu Hart, that has spawned such great wrestlers as Chris Beniot, Bret Hart, Chris Jericho, Owen Hart, Jim 'the Anvil', Lance Storm, and Brian Pillman. Just to name a few. It should be a good show so make sure you tune in.

Okay, Marty Frey, of the Hollywood Frey's, sent me a note last week that kinda hit home. He basically said he loved the podcast but my open was 'pretenthious'. I told him that I thought he was wrong because I can't even spell that word, let alone be it. So he has kindly offered up his voice talent in Hollywood at NBC so I can have a 'non pretintious' open. He said just write something and he would see what he could do.

Here is where you come in. If I am pretensous, how can I write an open that is not predtntous? If you can find it in your heart and in your busy daily schedule, could you send me some sentences or catch phrases for the open. I NEED THIS!!! I will of course make sure that "The Podcast that Does Not Suck" stays in there but I need more. Imagine you the TundraTalk listener or reader, coming up with the next great catch phrase. Here is your chance to ride my coatails to stardom. Really. Everytime you sit down to listen to TundraTalk, the podcast that does not suck, you will hear your words come out of a highly paid, announcer from hollywood. What do you think? I had a few ideas like, 'TundraTalk, the other white meat.' or 'TundraTalk, changing the world one bad joke at a time.' Here is an old school one from the Arrogance days, "Your host, Wall Street Journal and Jugs magazine Man of the year..."

I think this could be great. Tony Mutzenberger, I know you gots ideas, and guns. Robby DuPuis is full of it, he should have something. Shane Keller, come on man, you are the man with a studio, you have worked in the ad game, I know you gots something. Scott Dahl works at an ad agency in Minne, I know you have to have something that you threw on the floor that you can throw at me. Let's get this done.

Okay, you have your assignment, get it done...

I will leave you with a few funny videos to watch today.

The first one is Rick Mercer showing us all what the Taxman does to us every March.

And the second one is Bubbles of the Trailer Park Boys, singing an old song called 'Liquor and Whores' at the East Coast Music awards this year. This is very funny. I dare you to try to not sing the song the rest of the day. I dare ya.
