Johnny H jumps in...

I won your fantasy league.
I ran for President (twice).
I drive an unregistered car with expired plates and the Man still knows not to stop me.
and I sat next to Casey Affleck on the T.

Maybe you should apply to be in my Entourage.

Little H is born and a Ryan Smyth Song...

Johnny H, of the St. Louis H's, sent me a note announcing to the world a new H. He even wrote a poem. Wow, Johnny H, did not know you had it in you. Congrats Johnny H, you are gonna be a good dad, at least if not that, one with a great CD collection and the dad who can make the best hot wings. Nice. Amanda H, good work. Now you have two kids.

Whirl, whirl
Twist and Twirl
We Finally have a Baby Squirrel!

AND It's a Girl!

(or as my Dad put it, a squirrel with no nuts)

Elizabeth Paige Hancock
born this morning at 10:42 am CST
weighing 8 lbs, 7 oz and 21 1/4" tall
at Barnes Jewish Hospital ( the same hospital where
her Daddy was born) St. Louis, MO

Amanda is doing well, but worn out. After nearly two
days of trying to induce labor (41 hours, but who's counting?),
Squirrel was forcibly taken out by a SWAT team of
doctors who went in and got her by C-Section (thankfully there were no
hostages and Amanda should be ready to go home at the beginnning of next
week).

Thanks to everyone for the prayers and well wishes.

Love,

John and Amanda

NEXT: Peter Weidman, of the Edmonton Weidmans, sent me this, which I think is funny. It is a song sung to the tune of American Pie. Very funny...

The Ryan Smyth Song [Artist Unknown]
(to the tune of "American Pie")

A long, long time ago...
I can still remember
How Ninety-Four used to make me smile.
And I knew if they had their chance
The Oil could make those people dance
And, maybe they'd be happy for a while.

But February made me shiver
With every paper I'd deliver.
Bad news on the doorstep;
I couldn't take one more step.

I can't remember if I cried
When I read about the trade deadline,
But something touched me deep inside
The day The Muuullet died.

So bye-bye, to this year's playoff drive.
Don't have Pronger any longer,
Or that Mike Peca guy.
Now them roughneck boys are drinkin' whiskey and rye
Singin', "Did you see that Ryan Smyth cry?
"Did you see that Ryan Smyth cry?"

Did you think we'd go all the way,
After watching Rollie play,
In the playoffs of last year?
Did you believe in Marc-Andre,
Was Pisani worth that extra pay,
And were the Oilers this year's team to fear?

Well, I know you love that long hairstyle
You've had that 'do for quite a while,
He made those goalies fret
By banging and crashing the net.

I was a lonely teenage broncin' buck
With a red, red neck and a pickup truck,
But I knew I was out of luck
The day The Mullet died.

I started singin',
"Bye-bye" to this year's playoff drive.
Don't have Pronger any longer,
Or that Mike Peca guy.
Now us roughneck boys are drinkin' whiskey and rye
Singin', "Did you see that Ryan Smyth cry?
"Did you see that Ryan Smyth cry?"

For seventeen years we've had no Cup
And very, very, very little drafting luck
But that's not how it used to be.
Then Messier came to have his number hung
In an old-time jersey with his praises sung
In a voice that came from you and me,

Oh, and while Big Dude was looking down,
The Cup was lifted and skated 'round,
Other fans were amused to see
Such blatant hypocrisy.

And while the Moose was shedding tears,
GM Lowe was avoiding jeers
By cowering underneath the arena tiers,
The day The Mullet died.

We were singing,
"Bye-bye", to this year's playoff drive.
Don't have Pronger any longer,
Or that Mike Peca guy.
Now us roughneck boys are drinkin' whiskey and rye
Singin', "Did you see that Ryan Smyth cry?
"Did you see that Ryan Smyth cry?"

I thought we'd get a D-man from the Blues
For some happy deadline news,
But that chance just upped and went away.
I went down to the Rexall rink
Where I hoped to see a team that didn't stink
But a fan there said Smytty wouldn't play.

And in the streets: the children screamed,
The lovers cried, and the poets dreamed.
But not a word was spoken;
MacT's boys were broken.
Now's there's guys I want to roast:
The owners, the coach, but KLowe most;
Now the Cup's headed for the coast (!)
Now The Mullet's died.

And they were singing,
"Bye-bye", to this year's playoff drive.
Don't have Pronger any longer,
Or that Mike Peca guy.
Now us roughneck boys are drinkin' whiskey and rye
Singin', "Did you see that Ryan Smyth cry?
"Did you see that Ryan Smyth cry?"

They were singing,
"Bye-bye", to this year's playoff drive.
Don't have Pronger any longer,
Or that Mike Peca guy.
Now us roughneck boys are drinkin' whiskey and rye
Singin', "Did you see that Ryan Smyth cry?

Little H is on the way, and happy birthday Gene...

FIRST: Johnny H has just informed me that he is on the way to the hospital to welcome into the world a junior H. Go get 'em Johnny. Good luck and whatever you do, RESIST THE URGE TO HAVE A LOOK. There are just some thing dudes do not need to see. That is at the top of the list. Let us know how this whole thing comes out. Get it, comes out. I am sooo funny.

NEXT: Just so you know, Jeff Finger, of the Green Bay Gamblers Finger's, is now up in the show. That's right, my favorite Gambler is now playing on my favorite team. "Give'em the Finger" was one of Sign Boy's favorite signs back in the day. In fact up until last year in the Avalanche media guide Jeff Finger listed that phrase as his favorite. Nice. He got his first NHL goal of his career the other night against Colorado. The pic to the left is just after it. The Avalanche have a back to back here in Edmonton on the 21st and the 23rd so I hope he sticks long enough to be reunited with his biggest fan, me. I am currently shopping for a new Av's jersey to get signed by number 6. My old Av's jersey was recently signed by Joe Sakic so I think it would be bad form to have him sign that one also.

NEXT: Do you recognize the guy in the pic to the right? Neither do I. I found it in slide form on the floor behind my computer desk. Not sure if this is a guy that Donna is seeing on the side, or if this is my arch nemesis. I need to know. The guy must obviously live in a big city because the camera he is using in the photo is way high tech. One of those new 3/4 inch tape jobs. Way, way, way new technology. If you have any idea who this guy is let me know. I also have this pic for you to look at....

Not sure who the hell that guy is either. Lots of hair. Keith Murphy, of the Dead Moines Murphy's, describes him in a 'Molly Ringwald Phase". Again, if you know who this is let me know.

NEXT:
In the wake of the Ryan Smyth trade I have been given the go ahead to use the infamous 'Jacket' photos again. So if you want to see what all the hub bub was about last year, go to the right and click on Ryan Smyth under what we talk about and all the posts are there again. Just so you can see what went on. I did a search recently on Google for "Ugly Jacket" and these LINKS came up. They all link to TundraTalk and discuss the jacket and the controversy following. Kinda funny how all that stuff happened. Not funny all the heat Cory and I took for it. It is also kinda funny how all the heat went away as soon as Ryan was Traded. How did I find the pics when I said I had given all copies to the Oilers? I did a search on the home computer and they were still there. I deleted all the pics from the laptop but forgot to delete them on the iMac at home. Enjoy...

Someone sent me the picture at the right with the title, the guy most likely to kill Kevin Lowe. Very funny. "Ryan Smyth is my inspiration" , that shit is funny.

LAST: On Friday Donna and I went to Gene Principe, of the Edmonton Principe's, 40th birthday party. It was a suprise costume party. The theme was 1920's gambling casino night. We rented Donna a costume and I put on a suit, egad, I own one. It was held in the Eskimos locker room. Very cool. We gambled with fake money, pretended to be gangsters, not gangstas, and drank all the free booze. Lots of fun for all.

Cory of course took care of Cory and w
as the bartender. He mixes a killer Julian (rum and coke). Gene got way too drunk and did a lot of stuff that he will regret and Cory made sure he got pictures of all of it. I got to do the invite for the party and I will show you the 'Limited Edition' of the invite. Gene's wife did not like this one. Have a look...
THEN GET BACK TO WORK!!!!

Super Sunday, Bears Suck, Donna goes to Ellen...

bears suck
Oh ya, they do...

Super Bowl 41 is in the books and I am quite satisfied with the outcome. Da Bears Still suck and Rex (Dilfer) Grossman will be run out of the windy city within the week. I do not care for the Bears and am happy to see them choke in the big game. If I was a Bearsfan, I would be pissed. I would rather be like the Packers this year than the bears because I would rather miss the playoffs than get to the game and lose. That sucks. Bears Suck.

billboardBearsGMan

The only thing that kept that team with so many wins is that defense. Rex sucks. I dislike the bears, but there is still a bit of respect. With the viqueens, I hate them and there is NO respect. Mike Chaussee, of the Bismarck Chaussee's sent me this yesterday giving props the fact that Favre is coming back and the Bears still sucking and we are going to see Barnaked Ladies tonight...

Dude, nice week!!!

Barenakeds, BearSuckeds (hehe - they sucked), and Favre returns.
I honestly think we'll have a chance to go. Don't know if we can win it,
but the NFC sucks. We can beat any of those lame ass teams now.

And the Vike fans around here are legitimately worried. Life's pretty good
right now.

Isn't it great when the viqueens fan in your neighborhood is worried? I love it. I won a few bets off Principe this year since we swept the braided hair bastards. Grown men wearing purple. I also had Toby Peterson, of the Oilers, give me crap in the room about wearing my green and gold. I asked him what the queens record was this year and that shut him up real quick. Looks like I have two people to win money off of next year.

Speaking of Gene Principe. Have a look at this story on his ugly purple suit jacket. Man that is one ugly jacket. No it is more like ooooooogly.

Here is another piece of video for you to watch. This one is about the bears and how much they suck. Letterman had this on his show. Funny as hell. CLICK HERE to see the hilarity...

One more year

WHEN Number 4 leads the Pack back to the Super Bowl next year. That's right you hear it here first. Green Bay Packers, Super Bowl 42 champs. Now, unlike the idiot viking fan who went out and put a tattoo on his arm procalaiming that, I will not. I may put some money on it in Vegas. Now I just have to get to Vegas.

By the way that is Hauser, of the Green Bay Hauser's, behind number 4 in the blue jacket. Nice job Hauser. You can see his blog by clicking on the link on the right.

crowd
good crowd

We had some people over for the Super Bowl, the seventh annual. It was a good time. Weidman, Donnelly, Barnes, Doroshenko, Fletcher, Blashill, all the regulars were there. We got to watch it in glorious HD, all the good commercials, and the best part, Brett Favre Chili. That's right, straight from the Favre Family Cookbook, THE BEST chili you well ever taste. I ain't lying. Ask anyone.

princesuperbowl
Prince and his gutiar?

Prince totally rocked the halftime show. That was awesome. I know Shane your hatred for the 'Purple little bastard' but that guy can rock.

Favre Cookbook
Better get you a copy

Just because I am a good guy, I am going to post the recipe here. That's right, I am not going to be a secret guy. Everything out in the open. Then when you have your Super Bowl Party next year, when the Packers are in it, you can make the Brett Favre Chili. Man I am a good guy. Print this one out....

INGREDIENTS

2 Pounds of Red Kidney Beans
4 Cups of Onions
1 1/4 pound of Garlic
1 1/2 sticks of Butter
2 Tablespoons of Flour
2 Tablespoons of Salt
1 Tablespoon of Pepper
15 Pounds of Ground Beef
4 Pounds of Green Bell Peppers, finely chopped
1 Pound of Red Bell Pepper, finely chopped
1 Gallon Tomato Sauce
10 Tomatoes, Diced
48 ounces of Rotel Tomatoes
48 Ounces of Spicy V-8
1/2 tablespoon of Tony Chachere's Seasoning
1/2 cup of Chili Powder

Soak Beans in enough water to cover, overnight (I usually just buy a big ass can of beans, Costco size, that are already soaked). Drain and rinse. Saute' 2 cups of onions and 1/4 pound of garlic in 1/2 stick butter until tender (frying pan). Sprinkle flour in with onions and garlic and mix well. Add beans and enough water to cover beans. Season with 1 tablespoon salt and 1/2 tablespoon pepper. Cook slowly on low heat for 1 hour or until beans are tender. In another pot (or three big ass ikea pots as I do it) brown ground beef with remaining onions; drain. Add in remaining garlic, butter, green peppers, red peppers, tomato sauce, Rotel tomatoes, diced tomatoes, Spicy V-8, and Tony Chachere's seasoning. Cook for 1 hour. Add the beans and cook for 30 minutes. Add in chili powder, remaining salt, and pepper. Serve with crackers, chopped onions, and grated cheddar cheese. Serves 20 to 30.

Nice looking stove

So if you want to give it a go, it is well worth the time. No one has gone away from the Peterson family Super Bowl Party unsatisfied. Okay. Now that we have that out of the way...

NEXT: Donna last week jetted off to LA for a few days. That of course left me with the two kids to take care of on my own. No, we did not burn the house down or McKenna did not reduce me to tears. I also did not get Dakota completely trained to change her own diaper. We were all good.

Why do you ask did Donna go to LA? She went down to see a taping of the Ellen Degeneres show. It is something that she has always wanted to do and since she has a year off and way too many airmiles we put her and her friend Colleen on a plane to Burbank for a week in LA. Here is a pic of her at the show...See if you can pick her out...

reversecrowd

That is Donna up in the top right corner. I watched the show and I saw her in the crowd about 4 or 5 times. She got to see Barbara Walters, Serena Williams, and some band that I had never heard of. She also walked away with a couple of those prizes that 'everyone in the audience gets'. She got a Return of the King DVD with popcorn and a CD of the band that was playing. Nice. She had a great time and she is now planning a trip to see Oprah. Making the rounds. If she plans a trip to see Jerry Springer I will start to get worried.

LAST BUT NOT LEAST

Mrs. H
Mrs. H ready to bring in the new H

Congrats to Johnny H for soon becoming a pappa. That is just what we need in this world is a little H. Dude, let me know what you get as soon as you can. The world needs to celebrate the new H.

soundoff

Oh and one more thing. I got a call on Sunday night from Dead Moines Iowa. Andy Fales, of the Dead Moines Fales, wanted 'Chris from Green Bay' to come back and save their show from the doldrums of dumb Iowans. So me being the giving person that I am I decided to grant his wish. CLICK HERE and click on the SoundOff with Keith Murphy 02/04/07. My call is near the end so if you want to listen to the rest of the show go ahead but the best part is me at the end. Just before the rapid fire section.

Johnny H ties the knot...and dances real bad...

logo

Hello, I just watched something that we all need to get behind. Go to Beer League and sign the petition to get this show on the air. If you love hockey and beer this is the show for you. It is being done by the company I work for and it is killer. I would watch it and buy the DVD. You should too. Just remember if you are at work that there is some swearing and farting so be careful. Pass it on to everyone you know. Thanks.

johnnywed

Just a short one today as I haven't had too much time to think of something to entertain you with. BUT thanks to Johnny H I have some entertaining pics to show you. Johnny Hancock, really his name, lives in Boston, and he got married last week. I would have liked to have been there but my schedule and lack of vacation time prevented me. So congrats to you Johnny and lovely wife Amanda. Good luck with him you are really gonna need it. Whatever you do, please do not let him make hot wings for you. Not gonna go into details about that.

Another story about Johnny H. When we both worked in Green Bay at WGBA he was a producer and I was of course a photog. One evening he decided to send me out to do a story on my own. Meaning 'sans reporter'. Now back in those days I believed that if I was trying to be a reporter AND a photog the quality of the story would suffer because I was trying to do two things at once and I thought that it made your show crappy just by doing it. So I told Johnny H that I was not going to do it. He of course knowing that I had a short temper responded in a smart ass way which I do not recall exactly the words but it set me off. I do remember what I said to him. I believe it ran along the lines of "F you Johnny H." over an over in the middle of the news room. Hauser grabbed me and pulled me out of the room. Turns out that the story he sent me on did not exist so I got the last laugh but I remember that day like it was yesterday. It shows that we must have had a good friendship going that an incident like that could happen and he still invites me to his wedding. Oh by the way, I still believe that a shooter doing a reporters job and a shooters job more times out of not makes a crappy product for air. I just don't throw tantrums any more.

So here is the funny pics of Johnny H dancing.

dancing 2

What in the hell is he thinking right here? Does he think that maybe Britney spears is watching this and since she has a thing for her dancers that he might get a gig dancing and ultimately Mr. Britney Spears number two? errrrr, number three? I am glad he had the suspenders to keep those pants up. All that shaking, which I can only assume was going on, was probably the reason there was a quake in LA.

Here is another classic....

Johnnydancing

Okay, I am just speechless on this one. I expected to see him doing the sprinkler next, or maybe digging a hole. Johnny H has the moves ladies and gentlemen. Watch out world. Oh and these aren't the only two that are out there. If you want to see the rest click here and here.

Thank you Johnny H for the laughs today. Oh yeah, and congrats I wish I could have been there it looks like it was a good party.

Wait, one more, this is just too easy...

TPB and Johnny H's pics....

Hello all of you whose actually take time to read my tripe. I have been busy this week with assistant coaching the O-Line for the Sherwood Park Wolverines. That's right, football coach. Me. Coach Berglund is rolling over in his grave. As I told Weiser, all I need to get is coaching shorts. I have the gut, and the attitude. We are 2-0 in the Edmonton Midget season. We beat the Seahawks and the Ravens. Only one TD given up by the defense. Nice team, lots of fun.

About all I have this week is some mail which consists of pics that I think you might find interesting. I got this one this morning from Trev. A buddy of his works in Wiinnipeg and got to hang with the Trailer Park Boys and has a pic to prove it. Speaking of the TPB the season premiere is sunday on Showcase in Canada and BBC America in the states. Check it out if you can....

'My friend Rusty....(I don't have to tell you which one) works at Global Winnipeg. Got a chance to hang with the 'Boys. I guess Ricky's holding the camera.
Trev'

Trailer Park Boys in Winnipeg

Johnny H sent me some killer pics this week and some info on his upcoming marriage. I hopes to make it out to Beantown for the partay, but it is still within my one year at the new job so I cannot get vacation. But if there is nothing going on that weekend sports wize here in Edmonton, I can get away. But that would also mean commiting to a plane ticket now, so I don't know. I would love to see the Reds clash with the Sox. Man I used to love the Reds back when I cared about Baseball. When I was playing little league. I knew every player and their batting stance. I loved Johnny Bench and Pete Rose. I remember the world series against the Red Sox. At least I think I do. Anyway, we will see if I can get to Boston in June.

Please take time to send congrats to Johnny H for his impending doom...Meanwhile here are some pics he sent me. He did not tell me what they all were so I will add my two cents...

'CP-

It's been a while since I holla'd back.
Thanks for the pic with the Cup, I almost forgot about that. I'm sending you a pic of me and something else we may never see again; Chrirsto's Gates. Actually, it was kind of cool even if it was touristy. It actually made the Park look nice for the middle of winter. There's also a pic of me and the soon to be Mrs. H rockin' for the Sox in the heart of the Evil Empire. Speaking of Mrs. H, June 18th is the date. In between doing my taxes tomorrow, I'm also supposed to stuff some envelopes, so look for the invite to the shindig of the season in the next week or so. If you come, we're all going to Fenway for the Reds game on the 15th. If you give me a heads up I can get you a ticket. Probably from scalper named Sully, Whitey or maybe Fitz. It'll be a good time. We'll drink some beers and check out the view from our roof deck. I sent some other pics of our fine Boston winter and what not. Going to the game tonight. Schilling vs the Yanks and tomorrow I'll hopefully see the Sox send the Big Unit to the showers. Last time I saw him pitch Tatis of the Cardinals rocked him for 2 HRs.

Pretty self explanitory, Sox V. Yanks

UpperDeck

Johnny H and the lovely soon to be Mrs. H (Good luck with Johnny H, you are going to need it) in the upper deck of Yankee Stadium. Nice.

JohnnyHBritney

Not sure where this one was taken but I believe Johnny H is doing his best Britney Spears impersonation leaning against the meter. I know it is a stretch because Britney was leaning against a telescope in that video but....oh, never mind.

JohnHNYPD

Johnny H in front of where he spent the night shortly after he yelled to every New Yorker (with slurred speech) "Whose your daddy know, all you Yankee bee-aaches"

FunnyCurtains

Here he is modeling the color of the new curtains he is going to install in his apartment in Boston. He actually has one in his back pocket.

Hood

I will assume that this is the view from the aforementioned deck at his place. Nice view.

Snow

Okay, Johnny, you will get no sympathy from me on this one. Remember I live in the arctic circle up here. That is what my street looks like almost all winter. Hell it snowed here yesterday. No joke.

That is all I have this week. I hope you enjoyed Johnny H's slide show.

HAVE A GOOD DAY AND GET BACK TO WORK!!!!
