Real Bad Acting, oh, and singing...

acting
Yup, thats me

Okay, here it is. Your chance not to laugh with me, but at me. That's right I have found some incriminating footage from high school that will definitely make you laugh, if not make you a bit nauseaus.

McKenna has been making her Christmas list, and on this list is a Barbie 12 dancing princesses doll. Because as we know as parents, Barbie and Disney will do anything to make money off of small girls or more importantly their parents. They shamlessly print anything and everything with a princess on it. Not to get off on a rant or anything.

Anyway, as I saw this I mentioned to her that I was in that play when I was in high school. Of course since she wants to see anything princess, damn Disney, I was forced to dig out the tape and play it for her. This of course was very amusing to Donna and a bit for McKenna. She complained that there was not enough pricesses and too much daddy.

So me being the guy who will do anything to get a laugh. I decided to share with you, the TundraTalk Nation.

In the Hazen High childrens production of 12 dancing princesses I played Prince Youngblood. In this role I was required to dance, act, and worst of all, sing. That's right, sing. Quick here is your chance to run and get a bucket or some tums.

Best acting I did all day

I am not sure why exactly Mrs. Lundstrom cast me in this part. Maybe to get back to me for all that crap I gave her in class. I want to also note that in this scene you are about to watch that some smart ass put grease all over the suitcases handles and filled them with bricks just to screw with me. So the bad acting can be attributed to not being able to concentrate but mostly just because I am a bad actor. Enjoy...

I must add that the world famous lawyer Nick Chase was also in this fine production...

nick
Lawyerin has been good to him

Not sure why Nick, who has a good voice and is a decent actor, did not get my part. It is the question for the ages. I have some video of Nick later in the blog. He starred in Bye Bye Birdie and had some good parts in that one. Nice job Nick.

Dave
The elder Rock boy

Dave Schoenrock, of the college student for life Schoenrock's, was also a face in the crowd. Dave rules.

One thing that bothered me in this play is that I played a prince that was supposed to be fat. And as you can see in the video this is one time in my life that I was actually not. Weird casting don't you think. The line in the clip where I say "I'm a man who likes good food, good drinks, good times." Yup, that's me. Almost prophetic. Weird.

So now that you have seen me act, now you can see me sing, or not sing, depending on how you look at it. I am not sure why it is so bad but man is it bad. REALLY bad. I hope you really have a strong stomach. This one is going to hurt. Just giv 'er...

Bad Singing on Vimeo

Yup, that is bad. You guys thought K-fed was bad. Paris Hilton actually can sing compared to me. That is sad. Just so you guys don't leave the blog with a really bad taste in your mouth I will leave you with this video of Nick Chase acting as Hugo in the really really off broadway production of Bye Bye Birdie...Enjoy...

As you notice that Nick, unlike me can act. He actually played the part the way it was supposed to be done. Unlike me.

Have a nice day...If you can now.

My Election Day and Diamond Dave...

election-day
USA Election

In the next few weeks I am going to take you guys back in time. That's right, a bit of a time machine here on the TundraTalk. I have found some stuff from my past that is a bit funny. Media that I have that will not have you laughing with me, but at me. I found a video tape of me in high school in a play, some old commercials that I wrote, and some funny pics. Nick Chase, of the Fargo Chases, is also involved in this so you will need to make sure that you pay attention. You do not want to miss out on a chance to laugh at me.

Reaction to the Ric Flair Finance was great. I am going to refinance my home with the Figure Four Process. I hope with each loan you get a free signed Ric Flair Gown. That would be awesome. Marty, of the LA Marty's, sent me this note....

That is the sweetest web page I have ever seen... Some of my non-heterosexual friends here thought he was one of "their" people.. I explained to them about wrestling and I think they just got the wrong message..

Anyway - Ric may be getting a lot of applications from the West Hollywood area..

Tuesday was election day, and what a day it was! I was nervous all the day before, and Donna really was wondering why so I told her that I just want what is good and right for the country and I was wondering if it would turn out okay. Plus those lousy Diebold voting machines are junk. Election day showed most of us that those things need a serious overhaul and need a bit more credibility.

I spent most of the day in front of CNN watching report after report on different races accross the country. Man, I almost don't get this worked up for a Packer Viking game. This was election day. As the countdown to the polls closing I started to get really nervous. Then the results started coming down and the sense of relief took over as the blue guys were leading. I was really happy and suprised as the Dems started taking seats away from the administration. It was nice to see that people were willing to change from the corruption and partisan politics. Lets just hope those bozos in blue don't screw it up. They have a huge opportunity to turn this thing around back on the right path.

Anyway, I am just glad it turned out the way it did. Sorry about the rambling. Now on to the good stuff....

Tuesday was also a great day because I saw Diamond David Lee Roth. That's right, the greatest frontman for any rock band EVER. Jason Manning, of the Edmonton Mannings, slid me a comp ducket and we were off. Of course before you go to see a show like this you MUST stop at a place for some fine dining. We chose Hooters at WEM. Nothing goes better with a rock show than some wings and beer.

Now the guys I went with were all from Sonic 102.9. Sonic is a modern rock station here in Edmonton. Here we are, Al Ford, Andrew, Brent Shelton, Me, Jason Manning, and some other dudes standing in the back. How NOT modern rock is that. Wait it gets better. We were all singing along to the songs AND doing our own versions of Diamond Daves signature spinning high kick. Except Al Ford, he was a bit too uptight, but he made up for it later. We were soooo not modern rock. But who cares Dave is a rock god.

Dave for lack of anyother phrase, has still got the goods. He was funny, he rocked hard, he even played a bit of guitar. I was thinking during the show, as Dave played hit after hit, about where I was the first time I heard a VH song. I can't quite place the time, but I can place the feeling. It was a huge rush that starts in the groin, where all good VH songs start, and just takes over your body.

Every good road trip I went on had at least one VH cassette played. I remember that after hearing a VH record I was on a mission to buy or copy every one of their albums. The first one I owned I beleive was 1984. After that, VH 1, Diver Down, Women and Children First, and the rest from there. Each one got better. As most VH songs go, they sound better loud. Really loud.

DSC02439

It is hard to pick my favorite song by Diamond Dave. I would have to go with And the Cradle Will Rock for my favorite VH song, and as for DLR solo, it would be Yankee Rose. Steve Vai's guitar work on that song is unbelieavable. Speaking of Cradle, I happened to shoot a bit of it on my digi cam. Just for you, the TundraTalk Nation. The best part of the video is hearing all of us geeks say "Have you seen juniors grades?" and Manning laughing. Classic.

Cradle on Vimeo

When DLR came out for an encore.. the keyboard part from the beginning of 1984 was playing. How bad is that when all of us grown men, grown modern rock men, start jumping around and giggling like school girls? It was an experience I have not had in a long time at a rock show. Complete entertainment. Every song elicits a new feeling, a new memory. It is like connecting with the baseball and sending it long, or that perfect touchdown play and shooting it perfectly or eating the perfect Funyun. Complete satisfaction.

Devil on Vimeo

After the show all of us modern rock geeks hung out and tried to get back stage to meet the man. Al Ford had an in, with the promoter, but Dave wasn't seeing too many people. How perfect would this evening be by ending it with a pic with the greatest rock front man in the history of rock? Amazing.

Well me and Al were not to be denied. We decided to go out and wait by the backstage door and see if we could score a pic. Al also had a record and a book to get signed. So since we live in Alberta the weather decided to dump on us. Blizzard. So here we are, two old geeks waiting in a snow storm to get DLR pic. Al managed to get a stage hand to go back and get his stuff auto'd. Awesome. I was regretting not grabbing a VH record to get signed. After about 15-20 minutes out he came in all his rock glory wearing a fedora and a leather coat. Needless to say when a guy from So Cal sees a storm like this he does not want to stop. I wish I could say that this perfect evening ended with a pic of me and Dave, I can't. Oh well, I still have all the great songs in my head. Next time he is here, I will get it done. I promise.

Andrew took this one

NEXT: Tenacious D has got a movie coming out. So you need to go to their website and laugh your ass off. Plenty of time wasting here. You can 'rock' other people's websites. Which basically you have to punch in an address and pick how you want to 'rock' the site and it messes their site up. Very funny.

flair-gold
Flair for the Gold

Marcus sent me a link today, and I could not wait to share it with you all. We all know that TundraTalk believes that Ric Flair is the greatest wrestler of all time and a role model, wait, maybe not a role model, but he is a great wrestler. NOW if you are looking for a mortgage, or an auto loan, you can call the man with the 'Figure 4 Process' to find you the best deal. NO LIE, THIS IS LEGIT. Just when you thought Ric Flair had done it all, now he is the world champion of finance.

ALSO - A good friend of TundraTalk had the opportunity to chat with the musical genius Weird Al Yankovic. If you have a few minutes have a listen to the interview. Garner asks him about the song, Canadian Idiot. Funny, Funny, Funny.

Marty's Session...

Okay I am at work, at Rexall Place, during the game. The Oilers are down 2-1 to the DallASS Stars. I am still bitter about them leaving Minnesota. Anyway, I have been meaning to break down the photos that Marty took whilst recording the backbeat of the theme song for TundraTalk, the podcast that does not suck. He sent me a bunch of pics from the session and I want to share them with the collective.

I will now turn it over to Marty who was there, so he will know what went on. Take it away Marty....

Michito Studio
Michito's Studio

Let's see... I went to visit Michito at his new Las Vegas residence one weekend.. He had just got his new home studio up and running and needed a little help wiring up some of his equipment and getting all of his gear inside and ready for business... He has his own production web site. CLICK HERE This site is where he works with recording artists around the world to produce custom percussion backing tracks for their songs.

Grammy
Michito's a Grammy guy

So when I got there on Saturday it was hot... I mean like Africa hot - so we decided it would be a better idea to go grab some beers and sit by the pool until it got cooler..

Las Vegas Strip
Marty did not take this pic

Well, then after we polished off all the beer that he had we thought it might be a good idea to just head down to the strip and hang out for the rest of the night because we were too drunk to get anything done anyway.. We went to the strip and then went to the Palms to hear a band that a friend of his played in..

palm Hotel
Martyt did not take this one either

Fremont Street
nope, not this one either

It was pretty good, but they were done playing for the night and a couple of the guys wanted to go downtown to the Fremont street experience because something was going on down there... So we proceeded there and got even drunker with a bunch of his buddies at Fitzgeralds because they were having a big NFL kickoff party and everyone who could prove they were from an NFL town got free beer. Well - those are the only two words I needed to hear - and promptly flashed one of my expired Wisconsin driver's licenses and had me a bunch of free beer which I promptly shared with all the guys. So at about 2 or 3 in the morning we went back to Michito's place and crashed for the night.. I woke up about 10 - not feeling too well, so we decided to have some Mimosa's (orange juice and champagne for you unenlightened ones)in the hot tub to help wash away the night...

Producer2
Marty and Michito

Finally it was time to get down to business - I already had the sound I was looking for in my head for the Tundra Talk signature song and it was time to record it.. We proceeded to Michito's home studio - set up the gear and recorded the basic percussion track for the song with all of the fun instruments he has laying around.. I just described to him the sound I was looking for and he laid the track down instrument by instrument until we had it right.

Playing Timbales
feeling the groove

It's pretty easy when you are working with someone like this as he works with very imprecise direction all the time. So we got this done in about 30 minutes including mixing and editing time..

YAZAWA
Rock on

Michito had to go to Japan the following week where he is currently on tour with a guy named Yazawah who is like the Japanese Mick Jagger.. Apparently he tours every other year to sold out stadiums and has been doing this for the last 10 years.

Producer1
Great leaders reap great results

Right now, I need to get the bass track laid down and then the lead guitar track. The bass player is a guy who used to be in "The Wondermints" - the backing band for Brian Wilson. The guitarist is just a guy that I know from Warner Bros. who is just a fantastic guitar player. It's really just catching them at the right time with the right amount of beer on hand..

Marty

Thank you Marty for that break down of your producing the greatest song for any podcast EVER. I just hope we get to hear it soon. I have a sample of Michito's track but I do not want to give anything away so I will hold out to hear the finished product. Marty Frey, everyone!!! Give it up.

NEXT: I stumbled across this site the other day. Mystery Science Theater 3000, man I wasted a lot of Saturdays watching that show. I have some of them on VHS somewhere. I think that show was awesome. I wonder where Joel is now. He went to high school in Green Bay.

Anyway, Some guy has gone through all the shows and has explained all the jokes and pop culture references. I thought I had too much time on my hands. CLICK HERE to witness the, well, waste of time.

NEXT: I don't know if you have seen this pic, but wow. That is funny. He must really have been having a bad day.

Hannity
He really does...

NEXT: This picture is hilarious. Hannity really does suck ass so to see it on TV. Wow. So you know it must be true if it is on TV, right?

Have a good weekend.
