Number 4 Shuts it down....

We here at TundraTalk interrupt all this compelling Entourage talk to speak on the news of the day.

So I hear today on the NFL Network that Shefter is saying that Brett is shutting it down. Wow, that is huge. Favre has been beating the snot out of the NFC North now for a long time and we all knew it was coming soon but it still is hard to take. It is going to be weird turning on the game next year and not seeing Number 4 throwing bombs and cutting it up on the sideline.

How does a guy get over this? I don't know. How did Trev recover from the loss of number 19? How did Hauser recover from the loss of number 99? I guess we will find out. I do have the fact that I was at his final game. I was there with my man Marty and the great Nordic Man. Marty and I agreed at the end of that game that he was going to shut it down, but in the back of my head, and my heart, I wanted him to come back and sling it.

What can I say about this guy that has not already been said or written? I guess I have to just say what I know from my personal experience. He did give me lots of great games to talk about over the years. That rainy Monday night against the queens when Freeman caught that crazy pass in OT. That one sticks out the most. The Super Bowl when he threw that long pass to Rison and ran off the field with his helmet in the air. And that was not an Emmit Smith helmet off (look at me) that was a proud to be a Packer moment. That was awesome. I guess the biggest moment might be the night after Big Irv died when he put on a show against the Raiders. That was really amazing how he could put that aside and go out and put up 399 yards and 4 TDs. Truly amazing and I am not ashamed to say that man tears were shed on that night.

My favorite memories from this year we of course the wins over the queens (48 Leinies from Dahl), especially the game where he broke the record in the humpty dome. My memory that will stick out from this year was the game against the Lions when Favre just threw a TD then turned around and slapped a lineman on the ass as hard as he could. The look on the linemans face was hilarious. The time when he high fived the ref after a TD, or the snow balls he threw in the game against the Seachickens. He just loved to play the game. That is what I loved about number 4.

I have spent many an hour sitting on my couch cheering, as well as yelling at Favre. I also remember one time in the locker room at Lambeau were there and all of a sudden there was this huge stench hanging in the room. Everyone looks over to Favres locker and there he is, smiling and laughing. He just got up, said "What." Shrugged his shoulders and left all us media types to sit in it. Hilarous.

But what I truly consider an honor is I had the opportunity to spend time on the sidelines at Lambeau Field during 1996 to 1999 shooting video of this guy. I really think that is probably the high point of my career. I have some of that video that I kept. There is tons more back at NBC 26 but the games that I saved were the games that I was sent to iso on him. Packers vs Cowboys, when Brett put up 30+ points and the Pack Bears game of no real significance. I got some good stuff here so I decided to share what I had put onto my computer. My favorite clip is the last one, after the Man scores a TD he runs around in true Favre form. There is also a INT in there, to Neon Deon Sanders. Plus a nice shot of Favre walking over to Holmgren on the sidelines. You will notice that Andy Reid is right there also. Enjoy.

It is gonna be a while before the Pack, let alone the NFL has a guy like this again. Tony Romo is a girl compared to Favre, not to mention a schmuck for going to Mexico the week before the game with the Giants. The only thing good out of Brett Retiring is that tickets may be easier to get. Oh and my name will go up a bit higher on the season ticket list. I am not sure how the team will be next year so who knows.

Then again this might just be all speculation. I know Brett wanted the team to go after Moss again this year, and the team was waiting to see what Favre would do. Dumbasses. Get Moss then Favre would come back. Anyway, I guess what I am saying is until I hear it come from his mouth, I am still holding out hope.

So how do I end this? Well that is easy. I just say to Brett, thanks for all the great memories, all those records, the great way you played the game, and mostly, all those wins over the godless queens. Good luck in retirement. We will see you in Canton. Go Pack all the way to the Super Bowl!!!!!!
