Marty's Session...

Okay I am at work, at Rexall Place, during the game. The Oilers are down 2-1 to the DallASS Stars. I am still bitter about them leaving Minnesota. Anyway, I have been meaning to break down the photos that Marty took whilst recording the backbeat of the theme song for TundraTalk, the podcast that does not suck. He sent me a bunch of pics from the session and I want to share them with the collective.

I will now turn it over to Marty who was there, so he will know what went on. Take it away Marty....

Michito Studio
Michito's Studio

Let's see... I went to visit Michito at his new Las Vegas residence one weekend.. He had just got his new home studio up and running and needed a little help wiring up some of his equipment and getting all of his gear inside and ready for business... He has his own production web site. CLICK HERE This site is where he works with recording artists around the world to produce custom percussion backing tracks for their songs.

Michito's a Grammy guy

So when I got there on Saturday it was hot... I mean like Africa hot - so we decided it would be a better idea to go grab some beers and sit by the pool until it got cooler..

Las Vegas Strip
Marty did not take this pic

Well, then after we polished off all the beer that he had we thought it might be a good idea to just head down to the strip and hang out for the rest of the night because we were too drunk to get anything done anyway.. We went to the strip and then went to the Palms to hear a band that a friend of his played in..

palm Hotel
Martyt did not take this one either

Fremont Street
nope, not this one either

It was pretty good, but they were done playing for the night and a couple of the guys wanted to go downtown to the Fremont street experience because something was going on down there... So we proceeded there and got even drunker with a bunch of his buddies at Fitzgeralds because they were having a big NFL kickoff party and everyone who could prove they were from an NFL town got free beer. Well - those are the only two words I needed to hear - and promptly flashed one of my expired Wisconsin driver's licenses and had me a bunch of free beer which I promptly shared with all the guys. So at about 2 or 3 in the morning we went back to Michito's place and crashed for the night.. I woke up about 10 - not feeling too well, so we decided to have some Mimosa's (orange juice and champagne for you unenlightened ones)in the hot tub to help wash away the night...

Finally it was time to get down to business - I already had the sound I was looking for in my head for the Tundra Talk signature song and it was time to record it.. We proceeded to Michito's home studio - set up the gear and recorded the basic percussion track for the song with all of the fun instruments he has laying around.. I just described to him the sound I was looking for and he laid the track down instrument by instrument until we had it right.

Playing Timbales
feeling the groove

It's pretty easy when you are working with someone like this as he works with very imprecise direction all the time. So we got this done in about 30 minutes including mixing and editing time..

YAZAWA
Rock on

Michito had to go to Japan the following week where he is currently on tour with a guy named Yazawah who is like the Japanese Mick Jagger.. Apparently he tours every other year to sold out stadiums and has been doing this for the last 10 years.

Great leaders reap great results

Right now, I need to get the bass track laid down and then the lead guitar track. The bass player is a guy who used to be in "The Wondermints" - the backing band for Brian Wilson. The guitarist is just a guy that I know from Warner Bros. who is just a fantastic guitar player. It's really just catching them at the right time with the right amount of beer on hand..

Marty

Thank you Marty for that break down of your producing the greatest song for any podcast EVER. I just hope we get to hear it soon. I have a sample of Michito's track but I do not want to give anything away so I will hold out to hear the finished product. Marty Frey, everyone!!! Give it up.

NEXT: I stumbled across this site the other day. Mystery Science Theater 3000, man I wasted a lot of Saturdays watching that show. I have some of them on VHS somewhere. I think that show was awesome. I wonder where Joel is now. He went to high school in Green Bay.

Anyway, Some guy has gone through all the shows and has explained all the jokes and pop culture references. I thought I had too much time on my hands. CLICK HERE to witness the, well, waste of time.

NEXT: I don't know if you have seen this pic, but wow. That is funny. He must really have been having a bad day.

Hannity
He really does...

NEXT: This picture is hilarious. Hannity really does suck ass so to see it on TV. Wow. So you know it must be true if it is on TV, right?

Have a good weekend.
