Meet the newest Peterson...

DSC02143
Dakota Rae Peterson

Dakota Rae Peterson was born on Friday August 18th at around 10am. She weighed 8 pounds 4 ounces and was 20 inches long.

Okay, yesterday at about 6am our phone rings and rouses us out of bed. We were not supposed to be to the hospital until about 10 am so we were suprised to get the call that early. So we rushed to the hospital and when we got there they did not really want us there. Miscommunication. So we sit for about an hour and then they come in and tell us we are ready to go.

Okay, I put on the scrubs. Nice. Donna is wheeled into the OR. As we are walking down the hall I glance into a room that the door was open. You know how that is. I have a hard time walking down the halls of a hospital and not glancing into the rooms, especially if the doors are open. Am I a bad person? Oh well, as I look into this room I see a huge mess of who knows what on the floor. I did not need to see that.

I wait outside the OR while they put the drugs into Donna for the C-Section. As I was standing there, reading my Sports Illustrated article about Johnny Unitas, I realize that I probably should do some pacing. I see it in movies all the time so I paced a bit. Consider that hall officaily paced.

After I go into the OR I get to sit right next to Donnas head. Because again I did not need to see anything that I do not need to see. As I sit down I notice that the screen to keep my eyes from seeing what I do not need to see is A LOT smaller than it was last time. Either that or I am a lot bigger.

AS I am sitting there I notice a bucket on the floor. What is that for? Then I see something, I don't know what it was but it was bloody, hit the bucket. Again, not what I wanted to see.

As this was going on the guys who do the drugs discussed thier portfolios, cell plans, text messaging, where the cell towers are, and how they do not like working at night. Nice. Not really what I wanted to listen to.

About the time that I had had enough cell phone talk the doctor brings out our new girl. Dakota Rae. Man that is such a rush seeing the kid right away. Man that kid has some lungs. McKenna did not scream that much. I got to hold Dakota for about an hour while they sewed Donna back up.

Oh by the way, we named her after the state where Donna and I met, and Rae is after my favorite Uncle. Except he spells it differently. My Crazy Unlcle Ray is totally cool and I wanted to honor him in some way. Uh, no, Dakota does not mean I named her after my favorite Sunflower seeds, Dakota Kid. Although that is a good idea. I wonder if it is too late to add Funyuns somewhere. Johnny H also suggested Elvis Peterson. All good ideas as far as I am concerned.

Our first family photo

I had a bet with McKenna if the baby was a boy or a girl. McKenna has no idea what a bet is, but she took girl and the points. Well when I told her that she had a baby sister she was so excited she jumped up and down. She is so proud to be a big sister.
