Just a few things to ponder on Friday...

The REAL Ricky

Ricky?
Just a cheap knockoff of Ricky

Just a quick one for you today because I have to run some errands and work today. One of said errands is an effort to get a pic and some autographs of the Trailer Park Boys. They are in town and I have been given a tip on when and where they might be today so I am going to go and stand around to get the prize of a signed Ricky picture. I hope to also pose for a pic with them. Wish me luck.

Timmy Reiten, of the Minot Reitens, sent me a note on the death of the Crusher. It seems that he has had an encounter with the big man...

Just couldn't help saying a few things about the passing of the Crusher. KXMC used to carry all star wrestling and would bring in the wrestlers to the Minot Civic Auditorium. One time, after Chester and Hank paid off the wrestlers, they asked for a ride up the Minot Holiday Inn. So Chester offered them a ride in the Reiten family station wagon. My friends and I we're in the way back while the Crusher, Pamparo Ferpo and one other set in front of us. (I suspect it may of been the infamous Dr. X ) I was about ten and it was the biggest thrill for me Not until I lost my virginity two years later did I feel such elation.

T

Thank you Tim for that story and no thank you for the details of your elation. You need some help my friend.

I found this link the other day and I thought it was funny so I will share it with you. It is called Fox News Thru History. It is a parody on how Fox news would treat stories throughout history. Very funny.

I also saw this one on Rocketboom and thought it was funny, but then thought about it a bit, then concluded it was very creepy. People who have those robot dogs got together and programmed them to dance in synchro. Here is the link. Click on the words expressionless robo-raves and just get yourself creeped out. To think that all these people took the time to program them and line them up, then tape them. Weird.

Soul Asylum is back!!! Whooo hooo. One of my favorite bands is back and will have a new album soon. Pirner has recruited two of the Twin Cities best musicians to join the band. Michael Bland on drums (formerly with Prince) and Tommy Stinson (formerly with the best band EVER the Replacements) on bass. They played a show at the 7th Street Entry just recently and here are the reviews. Review One and Review Two. I cannot wait for the album.

Speaking of City Pages, I found this article on Paul Westerberg from last year that I thought was interesting. He spoke a bit about ADD and I thought I would share the passage with you all since we had a discussion about it recently. Here it is...

CP: At the beginning of [the Westerberg documentary] Come Feel Me Tremble, you talk a little bit about having ADD.

Westerberg: I did? I don't remember.

CP: Right. Watching it, I couldn't help but think, is it truly ADD? Or is it simply the workings of a creative mind, and you get bored with reality? Like the John Lennon thing about, "reality leaves a lot to the imagination."

Westerberg: Yeah. I don't know. It's brain damage of some sort. [ADD is] a medical/psychological viewpoint of it. And the other one would be the creative side. All creative people have it, and it makes us poor drivers or poor followers of directions, and we don't like to be told what to do, and information goes in one ear and out the other. But you sort of overcompensate with that imagination part of your brain that gets the muscles flexed.

Interesting guy that Paul Westerberg. Shane T Keller, of the Los Angeles Kellers, has worked with this guy on the Eventually album and has some interesting stories. He will have to be the one to share them with you as I do not want to mess them up with inacuracies.

So that is all I have for you today. I will get the story about my strike experiences done soon. I just don't want to put it out there until I can do the story right.

I will leave you with this joke sent to me by Scott Neufeld. Thanks Scott...

Alberta Supreme Court Custody Decision

A seven year old boy was the centre of attention when he challenged a court ruling over who should have custody of him. The boy has a history of being beaten by his parents and the judge awarded custody to his aunt.

The boy confirmed that his aunt beat him more than his parents and refused to live there. When the judge suggested that he live with his grandparents the boy cried out that they beat him more than anyone.

In an unprecedented court ruling, the judge dramatically allowed the boy to choose who should have custody of him. Custody was granted to the Edmonton Oilers this morning as the boy firmly believes that they are not capable of beating anyone......

Have a nice day and GET BACK TO WORK!!!!!!!

Wrestling and the death of the Crusher...

greatest

I know two blogs in two days. But I think I need to put this one out there also. Marty sent me an email that reminded me to put this vlog up. Here is McKenna explaining to me who she loves and who the greatest wrestler EVER is. McKenna take it away. I am so proud of this girl. She really has class.

Again, you need Quicktime to view the VLOG. So download it here it is free.

The email that Marty sent me is an obit on a wrestler that died over the weekend. I don't think I have ever seen this wrestler live but I do remember seeing the Crusher on TV in the AWA. These old school wrestlers are dropping like flies and it is too bad.

Anyway here is marty's email and the official obit.

Just thought you might like to know..

Reginald "The Crusher" Lisowski passed away this weekend. The man who make Milwaukee famous was one of my favorite old school Rasslers - along with Maurice Vachon and Greg Gagne..

He even used to rassle tag team with Dick "The Bruiser" Afflis who used to play for the Packers in the 50's..

So sad

OBIT LISOWSKI

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Reggie ``The Crusher'' Lisowski, a
professional wrestler considered a man of the people
because of his blue-collar Milwaukee roots, died on
Saturday night. He was 79.
Lisowski never fully recovered from surgeries to
remove a tumor at the base of his brain stem, his son
David Lisowski told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel on
Sunday.
``He worked out on his last day. That's how he
wanted to go,'' said David Lisowski, of Delafield.
``He did concentration curls and triceps work. He just
had to work out every day. ... In his mind, he never
thought he was old.''
Two surgeries had affected Lisowski's ability to
swallow and left him partially paralyzed, his son
said. The former wrestler had to be fed through a
feeding tube for several months.
Promoter Frank DeFalco called Lisowski a constant
in the world of wrestling in a career that went from
the 1950s to the 1970s.
``The Crusher was a mainstay in professional
wrestling for so long,'' DeFalco said. ``He sold out
the Milwaukee Auditorium and Arena on a number of
occasions.''
The barrel-chested wrestler began his career as a
bad guy, but people liked him anyway, his son said.
``He never really changed his style. He was a
villain, but for some reason people started liking him
more,'' he said.
He also had a talent for being flamboyant.
One ad featured the wrestler with a barrel of beer
on his shoulder, saying he was going to kick the butt
of Bobby ``The Brain'' Heenan all over Milwaukee,
DeFalco said. Lisowski added that afterward, ``we'll
have a party, take all the dollies down Wisconsin
Avenue and go dancing.''
Lisowski learned to wrestle while in the Army in
Germany during World War II and returned from the war
and played semi-professional football, his son said.
One night, Lisowski accepted a fight in a carnival
ring for the prize of one dollar.
``Well, he stepped into the ring and beat him, and
he got a buck,'' David Lisowski said. ``He did this
for a couple of days and beat everybody.''
Lisowski later joined the Eagles Club where some
wrestlers worked out and became a wrestler in Chicago,
earning $5 a night.
He drew the attention of a promoter, was put on
national television and got taken on the road.
According to a 1952 news article, Lisowski once drew
8,000 people to a bout in Buffalo, N.Y.
Lisowski and his family lived in Canada and Texas
while he pursued wrestling full time, his son said.
Eventually, they returned to the Midwest and
Wisconsin, where the cigar-chomping, beer-drinking
wrestler quickly became the people's favorite.
The wrestler told a reporter in 1985 that his
popularity in Milwaukee came because of his worker
roots.
``I think the working people identify with me,
because years ago I worked when I wrestled, too,'' he
said. ``I worked in a packing house. I worked at
Ladish, Drop Forge, Cudahy Packing House. I was a
bricklayer. But finally, I got away from punching the
clock.''
Despite his antics, Lisowski said he took
professional wrestling seriously.
In 2001, after fellow wrestler Jack Wilson died,
Lisowksi turned down an interview request from a
Wisconsin Public Television reporter for a special on
professional wrestling.
``People make a joke out of it,'' he said. ``But it
wasn't a joke to me. It was a living.''

Nice story. The Crusher RIP.

I also recieved a few emails on the Atari craze. Johnny H is down and so is Hauser.

CP-

Ah the Atari.
Have you seen what they sell now? It's just the old joystick, but since technology has sped past the 80s it has a chip inside with like 10 games. You just plug it into your TV and rock on.

Atari Controller Link

I think they also make it for the 7800 but not sure about the 5200.

CAN YOU DIG IT?

H

Hey Frozen One,

I actually have a complete mint Atari 2600 sitting down in the basement. I have about 25 games and an extra controller. I might have to dig it out and toss on a throwback jersey and grab a PBR. Just like those old school days.

Hey, GO PACK GO!

Hauserinskinov

Oh by the way, Hauserinskinov has a blog. Really. The man who cannot and will not even comment on the Dee Snider night of infamy, has a blog about his mountain biking. Hauser has a passion for this so check it out here.

Oh and one more thing. I know the Pack lost to the queens this weekend but I still wil take a shot at those purple idiots. Daryl M sent me this and I like it...

(To the theme from Gilligans Island)

Come sit right back and you'll hear a tale

A tale of fateful trip

That started from a small lake town

Aboard two tiny ships

The mates were a bunch of pole dancers

But the waitstaff was too pure

The Vikings team set sail that day

For a three hour tour, a three hour tour

The action started getting hot

The dancers strutted their stuff

If not for the prudes in the fearless crew

There wouldn't have been such a huff

The boats turned around and went back home

The authorities came aboard

But fear not friends, 'cause all's not lost

The Vikings finally scored!

Have a nice day and GET BACK TO WORK!!! again.

Fall in Alberta and McKenna goes on a nature walk.

Sorry it has been awhile but I have been a bit busy so my normal slacking has suffered. I am just adding this quick one today and writing a longer one for later in the week.

I became aware of this link to these old school commercials that I remember seeing a long time ago. Check out the Atari Commercials and remember how it used to be. The games today have nothing on the old school Atari 2600. I still have an Atari and I took it to work at the A and Evan Klipper, a fine photographer, actually had no idea what it was. Can you believe that? I must be getting old if there are people I am working with that have no idea what an Atari is. I have some old games and I should have an Atari party and invite my two friends over to play a little Raiders of the lost Ark, Pitfall, Defender, or some of the classic Journey game. That is the one where the members of Journey run away from paparazzi, groupies, and road managers. Really, when that one came out I remember that every one was amazed that they actually had the song Don't Stop Believin'. No game had really had a big song like that on it before.

My favorite game from back in the day was Choplifter and Defender. Moon Rover was a close runner up. I probably spent too much time playing Atari. I could waste away hours running around the caves hunting for diamonds and clues to solve the Raiders game. Those games graphics were so simple but really could occupy a persons time for hours. I think if you put one of those games in front of a kid today they would probably run away from you. They need all the bells and whistles nowadays to keep them interested.

If you have a game today you can still get the games. Check out Atari 2600 dot com and you can get the games sent to you. Also there is this site Atari Memories where you can read a history and also tell everyone how much you love the ET game. I have never played that game so I do not know how much I love the ET game. These are just a few among millions of Atari sites out there.

I used to also subscribe to Atari Age magazine. I guess they saw me coming. I still have the issues around here somewhere. Funny to look back at ads back then.

aa7atari7club

Flash forward to today and you have games that look like movies. The new game that I am interested in is the remake of the movie "The Warriors". Remember that movie? Killer. They actually made a game of the movie. I can't wait to get it and fight the Baseball Furies gang. Those guys were bad ass. I watched that movie last weekend and it holds up. It really is a good movie. You should rent it.

Warrior1

In fact I hear there is a remake coming. From MTV films and Tony Scott. I really hope they don't F it up.

Anyway that is all I have today, I will get back to this soon. I have some thoughts that I have been thinking about a lot lately. It involves my involvement in the strike at A channel and how people who were not involved now treat me. It is an odd thing what a company can do to your image by telling a lot of lies.

Have a good day and GET BACK TO WORK!!!!

VLOG number two and Attention Deficit Disorder...

So last week I had a few complaints that my first VLOG was too small or they could not open it. Well it was my first shot at it okay? Give me a break. You need Quicktime to view the VLOG. So download it here it is free.

This weeks VLOG is bigger and better so you better enjoy it. It is a parody of the new iPod Nano commercial starring McKenna. It is only 30 seconds long so you got time to view it. I did not have a good copy of the song so you will have to turn up your computer a bit. If you want to learn how to VLOG just click on the sidebar thingy that says VLOG tutorial. Easy to learn, for a mac user, not so much for a PC satan worshipper. Angie, you know I am talking to you.

CLICK HERE to view the commercial for iPod McKenna.

Donna has always claimed that I am ADD. Attention Deficit Disorder. I do not believe that at all but I do think that that claim has some merit, not much, but some. I ran accross this thread on the bRoll dot net site (a site for photographers) that claims that most newsies have ADD and that is why they chose the profession. Different story every day, work in short bursts, under pressure, and never the same thing twice. Again this has some merit. Have a look at the THREAD and see what you think. Either way it is a funny read.

Last but certainly not least Mike James sent me this moral dilemma. I do not usually read too much of this stuff but I thought this one really strikes a chord and asks all the right questions of a person. I believe that everyone should look deep inside and make the right choice.

Moral Dilemma,

So where do you stand morally?
This test only has one question, but it's a very important one. By giving an honest answer, you will discover where you stand morally. The test features an unlikely, completely fictional situation in which you will have to make a decision. Remember that your answer needs to be honest, yet spontaneous. Please scroll down slowly and give due consideration to each line.
-------------------------
THE SITUATION

You are in New Orleans to be specific. There is chaos all around you caused by a hurricane with severe flooding. This is a flood of biblical proportions. You are photo journalist working for a major newspaper, and you're caught in the middle of this epic disaster. The situation is nearly hopeless. You're trying to shoot career-making photos. There are houses and people swirling around you, some disappearing under the water. Nature is unleashing all of its destructive fury.
===============================================
THE TEST

Suddenly you see a man in the water. He is fighting for his life, trying not to be taken down with the debris. You move closer. Somehow the man looks familiar. You suddenly realize who it is. It's the President, George W. Bush. At the same time you notice that the raging waters are about to take him under forever. You have two options- you can save the life of the President, or you can shoot a dramatic Pulitzer Prize winning photo, documenting the death of one of the world's most famous men.
===============================================
THE QUESTION

Here's the question ; Would you select high contrast colour film, or would you go with the classic simplicity of black and white?

Me personally, I would want to see it in color and High Def. That is the only way to capture that moment.

Okay hopefully I will get this thing back on the rails for this Friday. Hockey has been really getting in the way of my blogging. Work, has a way of doing things like that.

HAVE A NICE WEEK AND GET BACK TO WORK!!!!!
